Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya may rest for Ireland’s T20Is, according to a report

According to BCCI insiders, the selectors, under the direction of chairman Ajit Agarkar, may decide to give players like Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill a “much-needed” rest for the Ireland T20Is due to the Indian cricket team’s upcoming hectic schedule.

India’s T20I captain and one of the team’s crucial players, particularly in ODI, is the 29-year-old Pandya. Rohit Sharma may need to rely on his all-around skill and batting arsenal during the next ODI World Cup 2023. The selection committee and the team management may take over and give Pandya a break.

“Nothing is set in stone just yet; it also depends on how Hardik is feeling after the one-day and T20 matches in the West Indies. Traveling is required, and there is only a three-day turnaround before a flight from Florida to Dublin.

“Given that the World Cup is of the utmost significance, one must consider his workload. Keep in mind that he will serve as Rohit’s backup throughout the World Cup, a BCCI source said PTI on the condition of anonymity.

Between July 27 and August 13, India plays three one-day internationals and five twenty20 internationals against the West Indies at Bridgetown (Barbados), Tarouba (Trinidad), Georgetown (Guyana), and Florida (United States). After this, India will play three Twenty20 Internationals (T20I) against Ireland over the course of five days (August 18, 20, and 23).

Pandya is anticipated to play a significant part during India’s white-ball portion of the West Indies trip, when the squad will compete in eight international matches over the course of 18 days in three Caribbean countries and the US.
