Wayanad Landslide – Sarathkumar Offers Condolences as Search Continues

Wayanad Landslide –  Tamil actor and politician Sarathkumar has expressed sorrow over the landslide in Kerala’s Wayanad district, where at least three people were confirmed dead and five others remained unaccounted for after the incident in Kalladi.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Sarathkumar said he was deeply saddened by the tragedy and extended condolences to families who had lost relatives. He also prayed for the safe return of those still missing and for the recovery of people injured in the landslide.

Search Operation Continues in Kalladi

Rescue teams continued their work in the affected area on Wednesday as authorities intensified efforts to locate the five missing people. The landslide struck Kalladi in Wayanad on Tuesday, causing severe disruption in the area and prompting an emergency response from local officials and disaster management personnel.

Officials said the search would be carried out comprehensively, with teams examining the debris and nearby areas where people may have been trapped or cut off following the landslide.

Ministers Review Situation at Disaster Site

Kerala Ministers T. Siddique and A.P. Anil Kumar have said that every possible effort would be made to trace those who have not yet been found. T. Siddique, who visited the site on Tuesday night, told reporters that three deaths had been officially confirmed at that stage.

He added that five people were still missing, while rescue personnel were continuing operations despite the difficult conditions at the location. Authorities have not released further details about the identities of the victims or those missing.

Political Leaders Express Support

The tragedy has drawn messages of support from political leaders across the country. Rahul Gandhi, the former Wayanad Lok Sabha MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said the news of the landslide was deeply distressing.

In a social media post, Gandhi conveyed his condolences to bereaved families and said his thoughts were with everyone affected by the disaster. He noted that relief and rescue efforts were underway and appealed to Congress and UDF workers to assist people in the affected region.

Gandhi also referred to Wayanad’s resilience during earlier crises and said affected families should receive support throughout the difficult period.

Chief Minister Expected to Visit

Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan was expected to visit the landslide site on Wednesday afternoon to assess the situation and review the response measures. The visit was expected to include discussions with officials overseeing rescue work and local representatives.

The landslide has once again raised concerns over the vulnerability of hilly parts of Wayanad during periods of severe weather. Authorities are focused on the immediate rescue effort, while further assessment of damage and the circumstances surrounding the incident is likely to follow.
